What is "homesteading"?

Homesteading means something different to everyone. In its most basic definition, it simply means life as a settler on a homestead.  There is actually a lot of history concerning homesteading.  Have you heard of the federal Homestead Act of 1862

President Abraham Lincoln signed it into law in the hopes of encouraging migration. The picture here is the first homestead in the USA!  The Homestead Act lead to more than 80 million acres of land to be distributed!  The link above will give you direct information to learn more about homesteading in American history.

Today, homesteading usually refers to an individual, or family who actively live in a way that makes them less dependent on grocery stores.  Our homestead is on less than two acres, and we actively raise several animals in the hope of replacing much of our grocery store consumption.

What is "Clean Eating" or "Clean Lifestyle"?

Really, it simply means to consume more 'real' foods.  Individuals desire to avoid convenience eating and other processed foods.  Many believe it brings certain health benefits too. I know many folks who have given up certain things for 'clean eating', which they claim has aided them in feeling better.

At the end of the day, removing refined carbs, added sugars, processed foods, vegetable oils and spreads - can't be that hard, right?

The goal of this lifestyle is to focus on being more intentional about ones consumption and eliminating the number of places your food travels before it hits your table.

FARMS in Kansas

A quick Google search will tell you that as of 2017, the Kansas Department of Agriculture had documented more than 58,500 farms in Kansas.  The average farm size was 781 acres!  That's a lot of farm land!  The industry produced more than $49.2 billion and supported more than 136,000 jobs.

Truth is, most of us don't have that kind of land to play with!  So we network and support the local farmers and homesteaders in our area.

There are already several great resources, especially on social media.  So it isn't our intent to reinvent the wheel. We hope to provide added support for everyone.

Whether you are a person living in the city in search for home-grown food, or a homesteader wanting to offer your goods, we want to offer a way to bridge the gap for anyone wanting to eat a little closer to home.
